Walking Football Prostate Cancer awareness event

Walking Football Prostate Cancer awareness event
03 November 2026

Burnt Oak Leisure Centre brought the community together on Tuesday 3rd November for its annual Walking Football Tournament, welcoming 10 teams and more than 90 attendees throughout the day to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection.

The event combined friendly competition with important conversations about men’s health. Two GLL team members shared their personal experiences of living with and overcoming prostate cancer, offering valuable advice and encouragement while highlighting the importance of getting checked and seeking support.

With both male and female players taking part, the tournament provided an opportunity for people to enjoy walking football, connect with others and support an important cause. Players were recognised for their performances, with medals awarded to successful teams and fair play awards celebrating sportsmanship throughout the day.

The tournament was a great example of how sport can bring communities together while raising awareness of important health issues and encouraging people to have open conversations about prostate cancer and early detection.
